The Works literary magazine is coming back to Sauk Valley Community College Fall 2022 and the college is looking forward to publishing works from students, alumni, faculty, and staff!

This magazine gives those who are or were associated with SVCC an outlet to publish their creative works. These works include items such as fiction, poetry, paintings, photography, and many more.

Tom Irish is the faculty advisor for The Works.  He is also a part of the English department at SVCC and teaches ENG 271, Creative Writing II.  Irish and the students in this class edit and prepare for the publication of the magazine as a class project.

The Works is edited and created during the spring semester and distributed in the Fall of the upcoming semester.

To be prepared for the magazine each year, Professor Irish mentions, “During the summer I lay out the issue for the previous year and make arrangements for it to be printed. Then when the fall semester starts, the previous edition is distributed around campus and we start all over again.”

The Works has been published yearly for over 10 years and the process has remained the same. It has been an outlet to showcase the creative individuals within SVCC.

Keep a lookout for The Works this upcoming Fall. Previous issues of The Works are available at https://www.svcc.edu/finearts/creative-writing/the-works.html.

If you are interested in submitting your work, you can submit four written and/or up to four visual pieces to litmag@svcc.edu.
